Personality: On the surface, Asuka comes across as arrogant and bossy. She likes to show off and brag about her accomplishments, and seems to have a lot of confidence in her abilities. She is a nonconformist who does things her own way, and is therefore a natural leader. She is extremely intelligent, but she can often be condescending towards others (her catch phrase is "Are you stupid?"), especially those her own age. The thing that seems to annoy her the most is people who are too passive, or people who exhibit the flaws she herself has (though she doesn't realize/won't admit the latter).
But despite all of this, deep down, Asuka actually has low self-esteem and an inferiority complex. She is a perfectionist who strives to be the best at everything that she does. She acts the way that she does because she wants attention from others, whether it's the good or bad kind. Along with being noticed, Asuka wants to be seen as an adult. She is fiercely independent and does not want to rely on anyone.
Most of all, she wants love and affection (and is rather popular with the boys her age), but because she can't trust people, and because of her abrasive behavior, she ends up unintentionally pushing them away.
Background: Asuka was born to a wealthy Pureblood family in Germany. Things were relatively normal and peaceful until her father abandoned her and her mother when Asuka was seven. Asuka and her mom, Kyoko, moved to England soon after. When Asuka was eight, Kyoko suffered a mental breakdown and had to be admitted to St. Mungo's. One year later, Kyoko committed suicide.
Asuka briefly went to live with her father in Germany again, but found that he was now married to one of the nurses from St. Mungo's. Asuka and her stepmom didn't get along well at all, so when she was eleven, Asuka decided that she wanted to live on her own. She soon realized that it was very difficult for an 11-year-old girl to live alone. She reluctantly returned home to find a pleasant surprise; waiting for her was an invitation to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She gladly accepted; she had always been fascinated by magic, and figured that being from a wizarding family meant she would be a natural.
She was right- because she is highly intelligent and hard-working, she does extremely well in nearly all of her classes (she struggles a bit with Care of Magical Creatures because while she likes the animals, she isn't quite sure how to deal with them properly). During her time at Hogwarts, Asuka has realized her passion for magic. She has made it her goal to become an Auror, and to be remembered as one of the greatest magic users ever.
